Other Foot Rub

New on the Building Forum: - Sat, 01/13/2018 - 08:37
I wear shoes with soles when kayaking and I get wear spots below my heels. I put in a decent number of miles in and I just go over it with epoxy/fg-cloth from time-to-time, but was wondering if people have a better way that lasts longer. I've thought about using different additives but I ...

Shop Cleaning vac filters

New on the Building Forum: - Fri, 01/12/2018 - 19:01
Since I'm posting home made gadgets, here is one that I made that cleans the filter in my ridgid shop vac. I have two filters and swap them out. As usual, this was meant to be a temporary prototype, but nothing is so permanent as a temporary fix. https://youtu.be/xsZwrKZ-cfE

Tools Building a strip thickness sander

New on the Building Forum: - Wed, 01/10/2018 - 15:39
I have recently made a thickness sander that is basically a jig that fits on my belt sander. It allows me to sand strips down much thinner than a planer can. In fact I can sand wood strips as thin as veneer if I want. That means that I can do inlays with wood that I can't get in a veneer, I ...

Strip Petrel Play -- more advice sought *PIC*

New on the Building Forum: - Fri, 01/05/2018 - 11:56
After having had my shop rededicated as Santa's Workshop for the last couple months, I'm back to building my Petrel Play. 1) I'm trying to decide what color Behlen's to use to dye the okume plywood recessed cockpit. In the following photos the wood has been dampened to better ...

Other Extreme cold weather effects on strip built

New on the Building Forum: - Sun, 12/31/2017 - 05:44
Usually my boats just sit idle and untouched over the winter after freeze up. But this year I am planning to take a cedar strip kayak to the indoor pool a few times for some roll practice. The kayak is stored in an unheated garage and temps are well below 0 degrees at night. Will the temperature ...

Strip Deck / hull attach

New on the Building Forum: - Wed, 12/27/2017 - 02:58
Somewhere buried in this forum is either a drawing or photo of 'something' hot glued to a kayak and then a wedge used to align the deck/hull for glassing. I have searched everything I can think of to no avail. Does anyone remember this and can you give me a clue to its location ? Thank you
