Tools Hearing protection

Strip Debating over hull glass

Thu, 03/01/2018 - 10:05
Much thanks to all for answering so many of my questions either directly or through the forum archives. As I write this my internal seam tape is curing and I now have something that looks much like a kayak. If I've learned anything from the experience, it's that every two days of progress ...

Strip deck fitting

Thu, 03/01/2018 - 07:32
Up to now I have always used Mroske deck fittings but I have been given a pail of deck mounted fittings made by Select Designs. I am not sure how to mount them with a water tight seal. In looking at the Select Designs webb site it looks like they were designed for plastic boats so I am not sure ...

Skin-on-Frame Sturgeon Nosed Canoe - updating

Tue, 02/27/2018 - 17:22
Back when I was doing most of my building I took lots of pictures but no video. One by one I am now collecting those images, committing them to video ala Ken Burns style, and getting them back out to those who find these kinds of things interesting. I believe in short videos, so I've embedded ...

Material Super wood

Sat, 02/24/2018 - 04:45
Have any of you heard anything about super wood? If this becomes commercially available I wonder if the properties would be beneficial to kayak building. They mention it makes balsa usable for furniture. The process makes the wood thinner and denser. ...

Strip I lost my build area

Mon, 02/19/2018 - 11:38
OK - so I no longer have room to build another boat. I was about to start a Spring Run when it all fell apart. I have plans, 17 ft spruce boards salvaged from a mast and mahogany strips for contrast. By my calculations, there should be enough wood for the project. I also have a roll of 4oz cloth. ...

Other Meet at the Beach -Hudson River??

Fri, 02/16/2018 - 11:59
Hi, I was wondering if there has been any thought given to a "Meet at the Beach" event somewhere along the Hudson River? I would be happy to help out with logistics. One possible location would be the beach at Kingston Point. But there is no camping allowed there. There must be a place that allows ...
